problem starting a 99 grand am gt

HI all,

My grand am has been not starting unless i give it gas, then it starts right up.. it does not happen all the time but when it does it will crank but will not kick over unless i hit the gas peddel... i took it to ny mechanic they had it all day and it did not do it for them.... so they could not find anything... except the radiator mainfold leak..... so they told me if it happens again to bring it to them when its happening, it happened the other day i took it and then it would not do anything again.... they must think im nuts.... im guessing it has something to do with the fuel injection??? since it starts when i give it gas.. any input would be appreciated if anyone has had the same problems.....
thanks

Welcome to AF!!

Have them check the fuel pressure this sounds like a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or possibly the throttle position sensor. Since this occurs more when the car is cold then leave the car overnight and have them try to start it.

Aother thing to check is the IAC motor. If you have a dirty or a sticking IAC motor it wil not allow enough air past the throttle blade to give the corect fuel air mixture. When you give the car gas pedal yu are opening the throttle blade allowing more air into th engine.
