Rim width

Does anyone know the rim width on factory steel wheels for a 94 3/4ton 16",
also what is the narrowest rim I could put 285/75s on without problems, the tire dealer says 7" but that is just the "recomended width" right?

Re: Rim width

Two different tire charts I am looking at recommend 8.0 width with an approved range of 7.5 - 9.0

Your original rim width may be shown on a sticker on the drivers side door.

I have seen guys running 285's on factory wheels but I don't know the width of them.
