Cat removal - VR6 - someone's gotta know (?)

Has anyone here gotten rid of their catalytic convertor on their VR6?
If so, did you eliminate the heated O2 sensor that was in the cat, or did you put the sensor in a straight pipe in the same location? would eliminating this O2 sensor cause the check engine light to be on all the time? If you can help me out with this, please do. Thanks

the new cat should have a o2 sensor bung. removing it would cause check engine lights and poor performance
