98 Blazer - Please help!

Just got a 98 Blazer that was running great. Recently I was driving in the snow in 4 Low when I lost all acceleration and was redlining just to go 30mph. When I pulled over it stalled. There was a burning smell that went through the cabin and then left. After a few attempts I was able to restart it and make my way home in 2WD , but the engine was making a grinding sound. Any ideas?

30 mph sounds a little fast for 4 low. Of course my car knowledge is very limited.

Exclamation Re: 98 Blazer - Please help!

Was going 30 in 2WD and redlining. Was driving in 4LO in snow going about 15-20. Also note this is a higher mileage vehicle.

Re: 98 Blazer - Please help!

First of all 30 miles an hour is absolutely too fast for 4lo

You should really never use 4lo unless you need to creep up an extremely steep hill, going down an extremely steep hill, or if you are towing something in extreme offroad conditions.

Stick to 4hi

Sounds to me like you burned up your transfer case, the grinding noise is probably still the transfer case (its probably stuck form getting burned up).

That would be my guess

Chalk this one up to "Live and Learn"
Learn to NEVER drive in 4Lo

Hate to say it, but I think that they're right. 4Lo is only supposed to be used at LESS than 10 MPH. If you had it at 30, then it is probably toast.
Sorry bud.
