zj tv lever binding

I recently diagnosed an erratic shifting problem on my 97 Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder. The lever on the trans that the TV cable connects to is not moving freely. The return spring is in place, and the cable is not binding. I tried spraying penetrating lubricant on the shaft from underneath, and working the lever with the cable and spring disconnected, then adjusted the cable. It seemed to help a little, but it still sticks at the extreme ends of travel. I know these transmissions are known for many problems, but this TV lever sticking is a real issue, and needs to be addressed before anything else, so if anyone has advice particular to freeing that lever, it would be most appreciated.

Re: zj tv lever binding

I would say you are on the right track.Keep trying to lube it and work it back and forth. It maight take a while to loosen up.The part that is rusted is part of the valve body so I assume you don't want to replace that
