i'm lookin for some good subs for my car and i dont really know what to get. I use to have 2 treo tens in my truck but now that i have a car i would like to get somthing louder. I was lookin at 2 power acustik mofo-15's with a power acoustik a3000db amp. Would this be a good selection?

I think power acoustic would be a step down in quality. Is this a hatchback or sedan (trunk)

Re: what are some good subs for about 500

My friend has two MOFO-12'S with the Power Acoustik 3000W amp in a Pontiac Sunfire, and I honestly have trouble breathing in his car. The sound is pretty clean. Far from "crap". Definately a pure SPL woofer, but they will get loud. Very very loud. 2 MOFO-15's is almost a death wish...

Re: what are some good subs for about 500

Power acoustik makes well shit for subs. The only thing i would consider from them would be an amp. Im not sure what you consider "clean" sound but they sounded like the cone was bottoming out every time they would hit, and this was with a 300watt amp (way below there rms), with bass boost at 0 and the frequency at about 60hz in a 1.5 cuft sealed box. Sounded like a monkey slappin its ass.

Im not sure about the type x looks like a nice sub but i havent heard one or dne any research yet. Im pretty sure everyone on here could recomend something alot better than what they sell at best buy.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: what are some good subs for about 500

Mag 12's are good for mustangs. That is what I am going with because of the very good SQ and output, along with working well in limited space. Even though I believe the 05 trunks are slightly bigger than the previous years. Pm me if you have any questions, since I have a mustang and have been through all of this.

You don't know what you are talking about. Mustangs come stock with 130amp alternators. The amp he is talking about has power ratings of 1100 watts rms at 4 ohms, and 1800 rms at 1 ohm. I know a lot of mustang people who have systems in that power range who haven't upgraded their electrical system. If he in fact did use all 1800 watts he may need to upgrade a few things. If he used 1100, then he would have no trouble at all. So before you tell people to start upgrading their electrical systems, I would suggest knowing what their current electrical system consists of.

thank you.. i totally agree.

dont be a dick. i was talkign abotu the 3000db (sorry i didnt specify) and him using the amp to most of its potential (whatther it puts out an actual 1800 or not). How many people buy high power 1 ohm stable amps and run them at 4 ohms? i know of some but its a waste of their money and those people probably didnt plan on running it that way.

130 amp stock alt. or not, 1800 rms with 'not super-efficient' amp is gonna have more draw than his car can handle..

so before YOU go being a dick, and telling people they dont knwo what theyre talkign about, dont get picky with the bullshit details, and realize that i had good intentions letting the original poster that he may need some upgrades, and to not spend his 500 on all the power he can afford, because he might now be able to apply it without the necessary upgrades.. costing him more money, causing him to go overbudget preventing from using his system that he spend a good deal of money on to full potential.

Re: what are some good subs for about 500

Wow a whole 130 amps add the amp to the power windows, door locks, gas pump, fans, lights, and ignition system you have yourself a nice little power draw. The big 3 would be a big help but my blazer with a 140 amp would drop voltage from 14v to 12v with about 1200 watts. And before you start saying you dont know what your talking about do some research they dont even tell you what voltage they test the amp at, they could test it at 18v once you put it to 14v you have a drastic drop in power, This nd do you ever wonder why they might have a big alternator to compensate for the extra power from accesories, so after the 100amps or so of current from the system you dont ahve much to push an amp with. BHS050 look into the big 3, capacitors are a waste of money.

Sorry boys. I was in a bad mood this morning. Just felt like arguing with someone. You both made good points.

Re: what are some good subs for about 500

The Type X from Alpine are very loud and very clean. want more boom get a 10 inch alpine type R and a 15 inch L5 from kicker. run the on different amps you'll get the snappy bass from the alpine and the overwelming "boom" from the kicker... only if you get the boxes made right.
