Hi everyone im new to the Buick world i just bought a 1994 buick skylark with the 2.3 dohc i think??? thats what it is....I bought this for a commuter car it has 90,000 miles on it and it seems ok ...The previous owener stated that i should get the timing belt changed...does this have a belt or is this a chain/ gear to gear.....Also what type of gas milage should i except??? I was using my 2005 Magnum R/t with the HEMI it was getting around 19 mpg not bad for a big v8 but not good enough for today prices....so now the Mag with sit home under a cover and be a weekend car ..... Also what type of common problems do these cars have so i can keep my eye open....Thanks for the help Gerard....

I'm a little out of place here but hat eto someone go without an answer. It should be a chain if I remember correctly. Bot the DOHC and OHC versions use a chain, I thnk.

Re: New here some help Please....

A quick look at the maintenance schedule at Autozone.com says you have a timing chain. I also checked to see if they listed a timing belt for a 94 with 2.3 and they refer you to a timing chain. No worries for you.

Thanks by any chance would you also know if this was an interference motor in other words if the chain broke would the valve's hit the pistons and the head and possibly the motor might be shot???Thaks Again for the help....

From what I have been able to find, it is not an interference engine.
