exaust manifolds
ok i need some help in this one,
i have a 1992 saturn sl2 with the LLO ,i have put is some time to try to figure out what exactly my plans woudl be . as i was browsing the interenet i stumbled apon alphatuning.com and llooked into what there about and soem of the pace setters for their groups such as ian and his boosted sl2.running his T3-T04E well anyways i am thinking about turbocharging my car but i cannot find any exaust manifolds for the motor i have the site i wa s looking at seels exaust manifolds 93 and up , would one of these bolt onto my car? If not should i start looking into a motor swap for it maybe a 93 or so ? any one know a place where i can get one for the 92 ? Would a 93 be a simple drop in ? when i am going to turbo my car i am going to do a rebuild to lower my compression ratio and prep it for the boosting , so the rebuilding of a "new" motor is not really an issue for me. looking into the kits and all i looked into pwr and they had a basic 250hp starter kit consiting of a T3-T04E a tial 35 mm wastegate and a 50 mm tial bov , with a pwr intercooler,i know i need the piping and all and a stand alone ecu . so can any one give me tips ideas assitance in any way shape or form of the manifolds motor swap or advice on kits? thank you for your time ~shawn~

Re: exaust manifolds

that is a link to Ian's site, haha funny he has same name as me. it will take you straight to the stuff he makes and sells. i think he only makes those manifold for 5 bolts only, what you have and all up to 99 i do believe. im not sure why your looking into pacesetters and things of that sort, those are headers not turbo manifolds. i have a 97 and im running a pacesetter for 93-96 sc2, you just need to learn your saturns. many things are interchangable. now you dont need a standalone to run a turbo. you can run a simple fuel computer, not a/f controllers like apex'i safc. most guys run megasquirt on their turbo'd saturns, but you could also use a 034 eic (extra injector controller) and use your stock injectors for normal driving while the 034 eic would kick in during boost. |

Re: exaust manifolds
ok thanks for the reply , and by pace-setter i ment it to the extent of showing what is possible in a saturn ect not the headers.
and for the stand alone comment i will doing alot of tunning and modding to this car. i am going to try to break 400whp might as well get the needs down first so i dont have to go back and buy newer items. or should i do what you suggested? thanks for answering me so fast ~shawn~ |

Re: exaust manifolds
well the best way to go, if money might be an issue, is megasquirt. it has now become a full standalone unit. it is the cheapest thing you will find, but requires knowledge to tune. most guys hate it but thats because they cant deal with whats needed to tune it.
now as of 400whp, you might want to tune down right now until fully getting to know a saturn inside and out. the best clutch right now for a saturn is an ACT 6-puck which can only hold so much power. saturns are limited to how far they can go, and its going to cost you. and if your planning to make this thing a daily driver, i hope you have a spare car to drive when this breaks down. it takes excellent tuning to get these perfect since they are limited with what all there is for them. im trying to change that, but its taking time. im dealing with new companies to make custom parts. oh yeah a 92, you want to stay away from when making high power, or pretty stay away from altogether. also if your thinking about megasquirt, check out www.plastikracing.net and go into the forums and sign up. they can help all the way with tuning. |
