Talon Project, Lots of Pictures! Few Questions...
Alrighty, well everyone else has been making thread about their little projects so I might as well too since I have a few questions. As some of you know, my tranny went out on me this week. Not 100% sure why but a few thoughts are a broken shifter rail and possible a bent shift fork... Shepherd has it and I'm waiting on him to call me with the results... Anyways, I had it all apart and I have a thread in the Problem Diagnostics about the starter. I have a picture of the starter gear if anyone can tell me if it has normal or abnormal wear... Looks pretty normal to me though. Another thing I was wondering was the amount of axle grease on the backside of my axle. Its just messed up how much there is, yet the boot is in place with the clip brackets on it perfectly tight. Any ideas on that? And finally where the driveshaft goes into my transfer case, there seems to be a lot of transfer case fluid all over the place and I was wondering what could be the cause of that... Any and all help is welcome. I also included a few extra pictures like my t25, stock exhaust, and my nice little tow strap thats holding my motor in place.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh yeah, I almost forgot about this last one... The exhaust on my Firebird has a broken hanger which is one of only 2 hangers in the back... Its pretty gay. Anyways, I was underneath that fixing it and I noticed something that kind of worried me. The differential has a ton of oil on it and its too rusted up to find the fill hole and I'm hoping once my Talon is back together that I can put this thing over the pit and check out the whole driveline better. Think its something I should be really worried about right now?

**EDIT** I found out why they weren't working... I keep going over Geocities bandwidth limit... Gay... I'm gonna try and host them somewhere else. **EDIT 2** There, I hosted them from cardomain and hopefully you all can see them now.

Ok they work now. Your flywheel looks fine and your started looks good so my guess is its an internal problem in the starter maybe but I'm not sure. All that grease could be from the wheel bearing to, so I would check that out. And I'm not an expert by any means on rear diffs but it could possibly be a pinion seal??

Re: Talon Project, Lots of Pictures! Few Questions...
Starters are easy to take apart, just dont break the brushes if their in good condition.

Re: Talon Project, Lots of Pictures! Few Questions...
Once you have it apart you'll see there are very few parts one of them being the brushes. They are the metal pieces attached to the center cylinder that spins. Take some pics and we can point them out

Re: Talon Project, Lots of Pictures! Few Questions...
Holy shit your car is rusty underneath. Your ring gear and starter teeth look to be in pretty good shape but you might have something sticking inside the starter that won't let it disengage from the ring gear when starting the car, causing the noise you hear. As for all that axle grease, that's alot of excess and I'm not sure why that would be there, make sure to check all the drivetrain components up front for any wear or anything that looks suspicious. As for the leaky transfer case, looks like you might have a leaky seal. Do a visual inspection and see if you can point out where it's coming from.
Edit: Heres a write-up on tuners about starters. Check it out. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190946 Last edited by gthompson97; 02-17-2006 at 08:12 AM. |
