apostrophes

I may be just a pedant, but I cannot stand the appling use of apostrophes (not apostrophe's) everywhere I look. An apostrophe is not used to indicate a plural (like, banana's in pyjama's), it is (it's) either possesion (Spec2 Girl's beautiful GTS25t) or missing out a letter or two (I can't understand what's so hard about it).

Sorry, I know I'm a pedant, but I just had to vent.

(and hey, it's better than whinging in other people's threads in OT)

Atleast someone else made this comment before I did! :o

Pittsburghers have a tendancy for using apostrophes improperly, too. It joins my other pet peeves I have with "Pittsburghese". And now I don't even have anyone else to back up my statements.

Hate to point this out, as I agree with you completely, but your example's flawed. In your 'possession' example, are you saying that beautiful belongs to Spec2? I thought it was named Vampi. By saying Spec2's beautiful, you are using a second example of the contraction between a noun (or pronoun) and the word is. To indicate possession, beautiful would be the adjective: Spec2's beautiful Skyline. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one bothered by the excessive apostrophizing around here though.

Tangent:
Don't you also hate it when stuff in stores is priced .25 ¢ and they won't let you buy 4 for a penny?

No, I mean what I said: Spec2 Girl's beautiful GTS25t - GTS25t being the model of skyline, and it being beautiful, and it belonging to Andy (Spec2 Girl)

Oh, my bad. GTS25T showed up on a different line, and I missed it - and if I had seen it it wouldn't have meant little more than gibberish to me. I'm not at all familiar with Skylines or their chassis or engine codes or whatever that is.

You're right. Props to you.
