96 ford taurus cef

my wifes 96 taurus has 80 000 miles on it bought used 3 wks ago. check engine light came on while driving. any suggestions? cant really afford the down time for diagnostics.any pror experience helpful. car runs very well so far.

you can take it to a parts store like discount or autozone and they will read the codes for you for free

A car with that many miles if probably going to throw the P0401 DPFE senosr light at the very least.

DO NOT BUY AN EGR VALVE.

It wont fix the problem.

As previously stated Auto ZOne will read the codes for free.
