Soft brakes

I just recently replaced my front brakes in my 97 Rav4. Afterwards, I noticed that my brakes didn't feel like they were clamping the rotor until almost halfway through my brake stroke. I bled the brakes, but the problem persists. What could the problem be, and what can I do to fix it?

you can damage the abs system if you did not open the bleed valve on the calaper when youcompressed the calipers.
