2003 Impala LS 3.8 Whistle
For a short time (a minute or two) after start up a faint whistling sound comes from the engine compartment....seems louder on cold days (only had the car since Thanksgiving so don't know about summer). Any ideas as to source?

my Grand prix and Impala do something similar not a whistle but a loud sucking sound would explain it best. They both do it more when its cold out.

Re: 2003 Impala LS 3.8 Whistle
well the sounds may seem louder when its cold, because your car idles higher to warm up the car, then it calms down once its warm enough. with my FWI, when I start up my car, it sounds awesome with hearing all the air thats being sucked in, and then accelerationg it sounds almomst like a turbo is on the car.
you are just hearing it suck in more air since its warming up. as far as the wistle, its still most likey a vaccum line, but after I got my intake leak fixed, I noticed a whistle too, right between 2.5 - 3.25 grand on the tach when im acclerating. |
