Problems after installing clutch

I just installed a clutch and flywheel on my 92 Integra. When I go on first gear the car shakes/vibrates for a couple seconds and then when the car gets rolling it goes away. Same thing happens when I go on reverse. I haven't really adjusted the cable yet. I just took it for a test drive and parked it. I was wondering if that's the problem or could there be something else?

I've been trying to get it started for two weeks and when it finally starts, this happens. Man, this is frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Clutch = Clutchmaster Stage 1
Flywheel = ACT 12.5 lbs

Re: Problems after installing clutch

its called clutch chatter and most of the time results because of a dirty input spline, did you clean the spline before reassembling?

its that shaft sticking out of the transmission, the one you can turn when its seperated from the engine

they can become dirty and need to be wiped off but whatever you do do not put any kind of lube on the spline, it goes back together dry

what? I've always been tought to lube the shaft, otherwise the throwout bearing can become hung up on the shaft in the future??? I've never had any problems with lubing the shaft lightly, and I have had problems with one that I didn't lube when I was a kid... it got hung up, and after I tore it back apart and lubed the shaft it was fine.

if you lube the input shaft the grease you apply to it can collect dirt and cause the clutch disc to get stuck causing other problems down the road

Re: Problems after installing clutch

Ok, I know exactly what you're talking about and no I didn't clean it. I didn't lube it either because I read somewhere not to lube it but there's nothing saying to clean it. Looks like I have to take it back apart...SHIT! So close yet so far.

About the flywheel...is there anything that needs to be done to a brand new flywheel besides making sure it has no grease on finger prints on it before installing? I made sure to wipe it with a clean rag before installing the disc and pressure plate. Same thing with the pressure plate, wiped down with a clean rag before installing.

Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Problems after installing clutch

Ok, so when I pull the tranny off and clean off the spline, should I also clean the area that the spline slips into since I assume that should have dirt in it also?

it wouldn't be a bad idea just avoid getting anything on that clutch disc
