radar dectors - whats good?

Hello,

The last radar dector I purchased was the udiden stalker k, ka, wide and laser back in 1993. As far as I can tell not much has changed since then.

Has their been newer things since KA wide and laser?

Thanks

Huh, I am actually pretty interested in this topic as well. I have been looking into jammers as well but unfortunely don't have as much knowledge on the new stuff as I would like. Hopefully someone else will.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

Yes the newest technology is called POP (police on patrol, j/k). As for buying one in 93 yes its time to upgrade. The new ones are able to pick up cops from much farther away and are more acurate. In my research the three best ones that I have found are the Passport 8500, Solo S2 (cordless) and the ever popular Valentine 1. The valentine 1 comes with a cable to hook to your computer and allows you to update the setting as radar guns technology changes, there is a fee for that but its cheaper thean buying a new radar ever time. The bad theing about these are the prices the first two are about $300 and the Valentine is about $400, but thats what ebay is for.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

l would like to know about radar detectors...

lets say l am on the hiigh way and curising around 100 mph. and there is a cop ahead but his radars are not on. then he would bust me right? or these radar detectors can warn me anyway??

how far can these machines see? am l gonna have time to slow down to regular speed limit or they warn you right next to cop?

radar detectors are legal in Illionis?? or GA?

thanks..

1- If you are on the higghway and a cop doesn't have his radar gun on it will not catch it. The radar detector works only if they are using the gun either on cars before you or your car.
2-As for "seeing" distance it depends on the road, highway's that are straight without turns and are flat I read somewhere that 1/2 to a 3/4 mile they will work and that will give you time to slow down, but again a cop has to radar a car in front of you for your radar to pick up the signal.
3- I don't belive they are illegal in those states, I belive its just Virgina and Wash. Dc but you will want to double check on that. I know jammers are illegal in all states.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

We actually have a few F-body members who are cops I would actually like there feedback on the subject of how effective a radar detector is. Maybe I will shoot one or both of them a PM.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

i dont know a whole lot on the subject of jammers, never deal with them. with radar detectors from everyone i've heard the passport 8500 is one of the best but costly at 3-4 hundred dollars. most radar detectors will pick up the majority of bands that the radar guns use, at the cost of the higher tech radar guns most smaller departments will not have those. most radar detectors pick up the most used guns. some of the more expensive ones can pick up the signal a little farther than others, and more bands, and has more options, but the officer can turn off the radar gun until the car gets in sight and then its too late.....especially in crowded areas with lots of houses and such the radar gun will be turned off until the vehicle is in sight because the signal will bounce off of windows and can be detected way before the driver see's the officer so once the driver is spotted by the officer its too late...in my honest opinion, the radar detectors are not the best use of money, they will help in certain situations but so will common sense.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

and if you're going to speed, do it on the interstate, usually it's a little more lenient on speeding there and has wider lanes and is much safer.

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

Everything I know about radar jamming I learned from the movie Spaceballs. Apparently, using raspberry is a huge slap in the face.
You know, a police officer with a golfer's range finder and an excellent grasp of calculus would make all radar technology obsolete. I bet no one ever thought of that.

Jamers are illegal becuase they actually block the cops radar guns signal, it prevents them getting your speed where a radar detector is exatly that, a detector. It doesn't block the signal just alerts you

Re: radar dectors - whats good?

Pondering what a jammer costs, and what the penalty for getting caught with one is?
