86 honda

i have posted here before about my honda and fixing it and how it had no spark. Well i have been trying to pin point what part to fix and so forth, and i just couldnt belive that all of a sudden with no signs, my car wouldnt get any spark any more.
SO for a few days i kept going out there trying to start it, and i find something wrong with it causing the no spark. To make a long story short, i didnt replace any thing on it its been about 2 months now. I went out yesterday, and the car started right up.

Any suggestions on how and why this happend? I like that it started and all, but i just want to make sure that i dont get stuck somewhere.

thanx
david

Re: 86 honda

its an 80's honda lol... when you say you have no spark, you actually have no spark or are you just assuming because it wont run? if so, i would make sure that the choke isnt messed up... spray some starter fluid into the carb and it should start right up... im driving a carbureted 88 accord right now and i have a problem with the choke closing too much i believe and then it wont let any air thru and the engine wont start... i sprayed starter fluid and kept the butterfly valve partly open with a screwdriver and it fired right up. At least i will be done restoring my chevy truck soon so i can put that pile of crap honda in a u-pull it before it gets any uglier...

Re: 86 honda

ya, i had no spark. I double checked it too just to make sure. Ya, i have had a problem with it starting a lot, then i upgarded the battery and had no problems. A week later, this happened.
Is there anything i can do or a shop can do to make sure this doesnt keep happening?

tahnx

Re: 86 honda

Have you tried changing the coil, or cap and rotor? I'd try with the simple things first.

Re: 86 honda

one word... ignitor. its inside your distributor and frequently goes bad on 80s hondas. go to honda parts and ask for one... it shouldnt be too expensive

Re: 86 honda

I agree with mazda tech. Also check your ground cable, the one on the water neck next to the distributor.
