Engine removal procedure... 94 grand am v6

I need to know if the engine from a 94 grandam with the v6 can be removed from the top with out dropping everything out of the bottom... The flexplate needs to be replaced. If it can come out the top can the transmission stay in place?

Why don't you drop the transmission out the bottom rather than pull the engine out the top. You will have a lot less trouble by pulling the tranny than pulling the engine and the results will be the same. The flex plate is attached to the engine but by removing the torque convertor bolts and then dropping the tranny you can change it easily. If you decide to do this just remember to support the engine before removing the tranny.
