93 S-10 Starting issue...after dark smoke...
I was driving on the freeway and when I slowed down, I noticed smoke coming from the drivers sides...I stopped to check it out, and now it will not start...i tried jumping it, theres enough oil, it has had some overheating issues recently, but now fixed, it was squeaking a high pitched sound at random times, and for a few weeks it has clicked when trying to start sometimes, maybe every other time, it would take 2 turns to start. now it just sounds different trying to start, its quieter, like its not turning or something, help? thanks

if it sounds funny turning over, check your timing chain.

Re: 93 S-10 Starting issue...after dark smoke...
I was told to check the distributor module, is this a common problem because someone told me it is with chevy trucks...it would cause the engine to be misfiring and hence the gray smoke...and since everything else seems right, its causing it to not start...

Re: 93 S-10 Starting issue...after dark smoke...
Yrs ago I noticed smoke blow from exhaust when I let up on throttle cruisng on highway. I was told it was likely buildup of oil aboce cylinder head that was leaking thru valve guide seals when rpm reduced. Since switching to full synthetic it does not do that anymore. Definitely burns less oil since level used to drop but not with synthetic.
That's what I thought of when you said it happened when slowing on highway. But if probs starting then like others said, a timing prob or running rich. Change cap, rotor, plug wires, air filter. If igintion timing vaccum advance check vac lines.

Re: 93 S-10 Starting issue...after dark smoke...
^^^ yea thats what i am going to do first, just lookin for input on here...I mean my truck was running fine, then it started cutting out out of no where, i was driving and i stopped at a light and it would barely move, very sluggish, then on the freeway i was in the same gear so it was not a problem, it ran until it died out, gray smoke coming out of the drivers side (distributor side)... I just dont think electrical problem when I see smoke, I assume the worst (head gasket etc.) with these older trucks... I am guessing that the timing was off causing the cutting out of the engine...now it turns over and wants to start but is just a inch away from starting...thanks
