No Start 86 Buick Electra

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me solve a problem that I'm having with my 86 electra park avenue. I was originally had a fuel problem I corrected that. I was'nt getting any fuel so I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump. I also replaced the ignition module and coil pack. The problem that I'm having now is that I'm getting spark from the coil pack but my car still will not start. Could it possibly be the crank sensor or is it something else that I could possibly be overlooking. Oh I also replaced the fuel pump relay, any suggestions?

Is the pump not running at all?

If it is first check the fuse in the IP fuse box. If that's alright then yes, I'd look at the crank sensor.

Yeah the pump is doing it's job because I just installed it. I'm getting plenty of fuel to my injector rail. I definately think that it is something electrical. What else do you think it could be?

So you're saying the injectors fuse is ok as well as the crank sensor?

No trouble codes from the ECM?

I sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body and she ran for a few seconds so I guess that I can rule out the crank sensor. So where would the fuel injector relay be located? "Note" I did replace the fuel pump relay which was located under the hood firewall.

Re: No Start 86 Buick Electra

There is no injector relay, the pcm grounds the injectors, now get a 12v test lite, pull an injector connector off and see if there is 12v on one of the injector wires, if so try and get a "noid " lite and plug it into the injector connector, see if it flashes as you crank the engine, if so now you must check fuel pressure at the rail. If no flash, this starts a new procedure, post back, at least you are getting it narrowed down.

Well I did what you said by using the "noid" light, I was able to determine where to look for my problem. When I put a test light on the fuel injector harness it did show that I was getting power to the injector but in turns it did'nt tell the real problem because I still was getting no start. So I plugged the "noid" light in and it did not light up at all which seemed really strange to me. I went to a bone yard and purchased a computer and "wham" now I'm get a signal with the "noid" light and lo and behold she fires right up amazing. So I guess if you use the proper test equipment and some good advice it could save you a lot of time and money. Thanks for the good advice and I guess you learn something new every day..
