Gas milage

I have a 2003 Grand Prix with a 3.1L. I get around 30 miles/gal on the highway but only 12 miles/gal in the city! I don't ride it hard and it doesn't over rev.Why such a difference? Any suggestions.

Re: Gas milage

Unfortunately city driving is hard on vehicles and gas mileage. I don't know where you live but obviously you spend quite some time in traffic. If you are getting 30 MPG on the highway the engine is running well and the problem is just the stop and go of the city. You may want to check your driving habits to make sure you don't do jack rabbit starts, that burn fuel too.

The other wild card here is idle time. Sitting in traffic and idling for extended periods also burns gasoline and reduces mileage. So you may not be able to change the MPG that you get in the city unless traffic decreases.

Of course you could always get up two hours early to beat the traffic and maybe the mileage will go up!! lol

Re: Gas milage

Well thats the thing I live in a small town and there are no traffic lights for me to sit and idle at. I may only put 5-10 Km a day on my car but only get about 200 Km to a tank. I think it would just be cheaper on gas if I lived 30 Km from work. lol

Re: Gas milage

haha my GTP get's between 14 and 16 in town... It's expected, just like GTP DAD said. There's not a whole lot you can do about it.
