Oil Leak

The Truck - 1981 K10 - There is a leak coming from somewhere up above the oil filter. I havent had much time to check it out...At first, the oil filter was suspected to be the problem. 1 new oil filter later, we've realized thats not the problem. What else is up there above the filter that can leak?
Thank you

Re: Oil Leak

You could try tightening the valve covers. Could be leaking on the back of the left one. Or oil pressure sender, on the back of the engine between the heads. Depending on your rig, you might have an oil cooler adapter between the filter housing and the filter body.

Re: Oil Leak

if it is a v8 there is a oil port above the filter on the block. I would guess valve covers but check the sending unit as mentioned above and see if there is a sensor above the oil filter... I have seen sensors leak before.

Re: Oil Leak

It is possible that the gasket from the old oil filter stayed in place when the filter was removed. It is also possible that it remained there when you recently put the new oil filter on.

I learned the hard way and always check to see that the gasket came off with the oil filter. Sometimes the simplest solution is the hardest to find.
