Got Code 440 now what

K i have a 2001 cavvy and my wife was driving and the check engine light so i took it to me mechanic and he tested it i got code 440 and evaporative emissions control it something to do with the gas tank testing the vacuum pressure while you drive its failed and the cel has come on it hasn;t screwed anything up yet i have had it like things for quite a while now but i am anzious to fix it can anyone tell what its gonna take is it the charcoal cannister or something else up on top of gas tank

could very well be the canister by the tank.

This code can simply be triggered by a loose gas cap. I work in the shop as an apprentice at a GM dealership, when we get cars with a P0440 code, we check to make sure the gas cap is tight and test the vent solenoid with the Tech 2. If both those are working ok, we clear the code and send the customer on their way. We tell them that if it comes back, to bring the vehicle back for further diagnosis. Most times the vehicle does not come back with the code.

well i have changed the gas cap and had it diagnosed is this canister removable without dropping the tank

Yes it is, if you look underneath the car, it's right behind the gas tank.

I will be waiting for a warm day its like -20 outside today with 80km an hour winds so i will keep you posted any tips on doing it ?
