Which shock brand do you recomend?
I need new Shocks on my 99 z71. I off road sometimes but usually just a daily driver. Looking at Rancho rs9000, Rancho rsx17000, Bilstein HD, Edelbrock Performance IAS, ProComp Mx6, and Monroe Reflex Monotube. What do you quys think or have experience with? I am more concerned with quality than price.

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
I would only run one of the above, but only as a second choice, the Bilstein. If I were you I would run KYB Monomax shocks. I have them on my truck and my wifes S10 Quad Pickup and love them. I have 2 alignment shops in town that will only sale them on pickups and suvs, that is unless the people are extreemly cheep. They are equivalent to the Bilstein, but have the KYB's have a limited life time warranty, and are built much better.

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
I have the rs 9000x 9 position adjustable shocks on my 99 z-71, so far the shock have been good to me, for on road use i use the 3 setting on the shocks and it still gives a good ride. I havent been offroading since i bought them so i cant tell you how they are there. but rancho suggests using a stiffer setting. good luck choosing

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
What about the Edelbrock shocks? Anyone here tried them yet? I've always wanted to see how they rode and such, but never had enough money to spend. I'll wait till I get my lift.

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
I put RSX shocks on my 99 1500 EC 4x4 and notices a tremendous improvement over stock. Of course my stocks were original with 135k rusty upstate NY miles on them, so I think using steel posts would have been an improvement. The nicest thing about new shocks is that you can easily DIY. Dont even need to jack the truck up(at least I didnt). The self adjusting ride feature of the RSX is noticable when you start going over rough road. They do smooth out.

I put the edelbrock ias shocks on my 99 k1500 suburban 4 x4. I've ridden them for a year (never off road). Bought them from eshocks online
my impressions - Good on the highway - Get rid of body roll--much stiffer than Bilsteins even during installation - Not impressed with washboard peformance as thet are stiff and jarring - The rear end never leaves the road =good - The front end does not provide enough dampening on in town driving, not the cushy ride I was ecpecting and advertised. I'd probably go with bilsteins next time from eshocks as they have them at a good price. This truck is used as the family battle wagon and wish the front end provided more dampening. |

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
I have a 2000 5.3 ext cab and I replaced the stock shocks with the Bilstein and while they do a good job man are they stiff if I'm lightly loaded. The Bilsteins I believe came on a '99 Z71 from the factory.

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
Well, since this post was brought back up... I ended up getting the edlebrock shocks and they are a much softer ride than the Bilsteins that came stock. My wife loves the truck cause it rides like a 2wd now but I sure wish they were a little firmer. Over all the shocks have been good just a lot softer and more body role than I wanted.

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
FOX shocks, only way to go.... You get what you pay for, and the emulsion style are too pricey

Re: Which shock brand do you recomend?
I use the KYB Monomax on my '99 Silverado reg. cab short bed. The shocks have a good ride and my tires have worn evenly. I would buy them again.
