Rear hatch release switch

Does anyone know whether the rear hatch release switch assy #10330686 is conventionally wired into the vehicle or is it a wireless device or even one of those "smart bus" switches? Does anyone have a schematic that shows the wiring?

Does GM have a conversion/upgrade kit? The dealer was clueless. My 03 was built before 03-03 and does not have a rear hatch release. This is a real PITA when it comes to loading the vehicle. The only way to release the back hatch is to use the key fob transmitter or hit a button on the dash.
