car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

I have a 1994 buick regal gs. Before the engine would die while driving and it'd take a while to start it back up. My father had the ignition module changed and the problem went away. few months later the problem came back except this time im able to restart the engine with no problem. I've noticed that the engine would die on me while im breaking. Is the ignition module the problem again? or is there something else i should change?

Not the icm, could be a stuck egr or a carboned up idle contol and/or tb needs cleaning, no magic bullet here someone has to do on site repair and/or diagnosis.

How much fuel do you have when this occurs? My PA will stall upon braking if i have a 1/4 tank or less. Of course, this issue is not limited to fuel tank fullness, but it may be.

Just curuious here, do you consider this normal or is this condition something that should be looked in to?

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

It's definately not normal, but short of pulling the tank and cleaning it, I'm willing to accept that problem.

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

here's a more detailed version of whats been happening.

Previously, the car engine would just die while in motion and service engine light and check gauges light goes on. The car never started choking or anything it simply turned off.I'd pull over and try to restart but it took a while until it did. After restarting the car the check engine light and check gauges light goes away. The ignition module was replaced and the problem went away. Few months later, the engine died on me again, with the same warning lights going off(check engine & check gauges), this time after pulling over, the engine started right away when i turned it on with no problems. Sometimes just the service engine light would turn on and it'd feel like ive lost some power in the car when pushing down on the gas pedal. The ignition module put in was an after market. Should I replace the ignition module again or is there something else i need to replace? If anyone knows please let me know thanks!

I havent noticed if my gas is less than 1/4 ill be checking for it now thanks.

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

I just posted another post in another recent thread ( 1996 Regal GS stalling ) Has the fuel pressure been checked on your car. I had similar problem that you have on a 1988 Oldsmobile 88 with the 3800 engine and it turned out to be a weak fuel pump. The fuel pressure was not quite high enough.

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

These symptoms sound like my Chrysler T&C fuel pump failure. I was towed twice. Car ran for 8 months between failures. My T&C had 120,000 miles. It even ran for my mechanic after being towed. Some of these pumps take a long time to die.

Good luck

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

I have the 96 Regal GS that stalls. My daughter had driven for a week with the MAF sensor unplugged. I traded cars Thursday and I plugged it back in and Friday afternoon it cut off twice while slowing. I unplugged the MAF sensor feeling satisfied I had solved the problem. Replace the MAF sensor. This afternoon on the way home from church, it cut off. Told my daughter and she said oh, yea, it had cut off once with her when it was unplugged. Blows that theory. I am going to get the fuel pressure checked and the replace the relays.

I have a '92 Regal Sedan that is also stalling out, first in the morning at start-up, then going down the freeway while pushing on the gas pedal, it will cut out and cut back in as if it turned off (but no service lights appear). Have had the fuel injection system cleaned out twice, and just replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Wouldn't start for several minutes when I went to pick it up from the shop. I don't think it's fuel related but maybe electrical like a sensor? Friends have suggested the cat converter, which I hope not. It's getting expensive to find out what the problem is.

It doesn't seem to matter how much gas is in the tank. It has happened when it was 3/4 full.

Re: car stalling while driving NEED HELP!

My mechanic finally picked up the reference voltage from the power control module (PCM) dropped to zero then right back up to either 4 or 5 volts for system reference. We replaced the PCM and have had no cut off since. The battery light comes on after about 5 minutes driving but the system is charging and the battery is good so, I drive on.
