Windshield washer problem

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT. For no apparent reason, my windshield washer stopped working. When I push the button on the turn signal, the wipers go on, but no washer fluid comes out. I don't hear the pump making any noise. I checked under the wheel and saw the connections to the reservoir were intact, and there's plenty of fluid. I even looked in the owner's manual to see if it's a fuse, but nothing is listed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's hard to see from all the salt on the road. Thanks.

Re: Windshield washer problem

I would expect that the pump is either frozen or has burnt out. It is located in the bottom of the reservoir and it is not hard to change out. Simply remove the reservior, remove the pump from the tank and then replace the entire assembly. You can purchase one from a dealer or check the local parts store. If you have a wrecking yard close by you can get a whole tank and pump for a few dollars. Good Luck! and Welcome to AF!!

Re: Windshield washer problem

Lynn, I just got one off a 2001 GP at the boneyard for $30 this past weekend. In great shape and a good deal compared to the dealers.

Re: Windshield washer problem

Had the same problem with mine last year. I replaced the pump and I was back in busness. If you remove the passenger tire and the plastic wheel weel the pump in right there. I got the part from napa for I think $17 it took me about 45 minutes to replace. Just make sure you have bucket or when you remove the pump you will have washer fluid everywhere

Re: Windshield washer problem

Didn't have to worry about any mess. We swapped out the whole washer fluid reservoir which came with the 2nd design pump and level sensor. $30.00 complete.

Just took a little extra time because of the plastic fender liner.
