squealing engine, but not a belt

Ok I took my GT-S in to have it looked at and they said the squealing was the belt so they replaced it and before I got it home it was still squealing, just not as bad. Any ideas as to what else it could be? I'm thinkin its a pulley bearing or something. Maybe the alternator pulley. I haven't had time to try and diagnose it myself. I have noticed that the lights dim when I pressed the brake down so maybe thats it. Thanx.

Re: squealing engine, but not a belt

it could be the new belt. if the belt got wet or something it will make it squeal. give it a few days to let the belt break in and see if it goes away.

i know on one of my old cars, the alternator bearings were going out and caused a loud squealing. i didnt notice anything as far as dimming lights but i was running two 12" subs.

give it a day or two and let the belt break in, and it should disappear. if not then something requires investigtion, best bet is to just listen and see where the sound is coming from

Re: squealing engine, but not a belt

Yea I'll give it a couple of days & see what happens. If it doesn't go away, I'll just fix it myself. They also told me the noise coming from the rear is the muffler tip banging on the bumper, but I'm not sure how competant they are now. It's like they say, "If u want something done right..."
Thanx for the input though.

Re: squealing engine, but not a belt

Damnit!!! It's the belt tensioner! Toyota told me its roughly a $300 fix. I dont have a f'n warrenty so I have to fix it myself or pay them an ass load to fix it. The tenioner costs almost $200 itself. What ever happened to toyota reliability?

Re: squealing engine, but not a belt

its still reliable. try getting a price from an auto parts store. i dont think the tensioner is too hard to fix really.

if that doesnt work, im not sure but you could get one from a junkyard.
