2000 Stratus oil light

I have a 2000 Stratus ES and the oil light came on last week, when I was idle, but went off while driving. I hadn't had an oil change for 5000 miles, so I took it into the dealer and had that done, but neglected to tell them about the light. Since then the light has come on sporadically, usually when idle, and then turning off when driving (not just from putting it in gear, but after accelerating). So, my question is, is it likely it is just the sensor that needs to be replaced? Or am I in danger of blowing the whole engine and should take it in asap?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 2000 Stratus oil light

best get that checked asap..

might just be a bad sensor, but could be alot more if there is not enough oil pressure.

I have the same problem. Oil light comes on at idle and goes off when the rpm's raise above 1000. Seems like my idle is a little slow for some reason too.
