Question Small Block Cylinder Heads

I have a 1980 model Camaro with a 1974 carb 350 with headers, glasspacks, edelbrock intake, etc. I recently found the option to buy a set of stock remanufactured heads from an Advance Auto Parts store and was wondering if anyone else has went this route and were they impressed with the quality of the product? Thank you for your replies. I am buying rather soon and have limited funds. The old heads are smog stock and I was going to buy 327 heads to up my compression a little.

Re: Small Block Cylinder Heads

The old smog type heads had even less performance than some of the 69 350's or 327's stock.

Re: Small Block Cylinder Heads

I would go to a junk yard and pick some up and get them reworked, or get yours reworked.

Re: Small Block Cylinder Heads

Just an idea, my buddy has a very mild built 350 in his 85 camaro. He used a set of 305HO heads with a flat top piston. Has a mild r.v. style cam. Makes pretty impressive low end and mid range power up to about 6000. This is a reativley cheap way to increase compression and make decent power on a tight budget. Heres my 383 stroker w/ Dyers 671 street charger, built by Rodlands Crank Grinding and Automotive Machine. www.performancecncblocks.com

I also have seen this done to get more compression. My friend has been the over all winner at the dirt tracks for 4 years and running and he told me that 305 heads were the trick.

Re: Small Block Cylinder Heads

Keep an eye out on E bay for Corvette aluminum 113 heads. they have 58cc chambers like the 305 heads but are made for a 350. They usually go for around $300 or so.

Re: Small Block Cylinder Heads

I would just buy a set of aftermarket heads they cost a little more but they will be good to go. I got AFR myself and they work great.
