ZX2 Engine Replacement

I have a '98 ZX2 and the engine is shot. I looking to pick up another angine to put in. Question is will a Zetec engine out of a Contour or Focus work in a ZX2? I've had a couple people tell me that I have to get an engine out of another ZX2. Any advise??

Re: ZX2 Engine Replacement

they will...but it will be a LOT of rewireing (the focus does not have VCT either, bebending on the contour it might or may not)

For the focus motor you also need to move a motor mount(not sure about the contour)

for a 98 ZX2 you need to use a 98-early 99 zx2 motor(small wiring difference) you can use a 99.5+ but im not 100% on how much difference the wireing change is...i believe it mostly just a CCRM change and a small rewire.

What do you mean by "shot"?

Re: ZX2 Engine Replacement

The timing belt broke and took out the valves and possibly the piston on the fourth cylinder. The engine can be fixxed, but I'm looking at close to $2,000 to have it repaired. I'm just looking for other ideas to fix the car that might be a little cheaper.

Re: ZX2 Engine Replacement

zetec is non-interference, you did NOT bend any valve, retime your motor and put a new belt on and it's good as new

Re: ZX2 Engine Replacement

I had a new timing belt installed and and had it timed and now the car has no compression in the fourth cylinder. Any ideas what else it could be?

Re: ZX2 Engine Replacement

Let's see.......um, head gasket??? Ring job??? Timing issues??? Could be a lot of things. Sound like you need to have someone look into it.
