speed sensor?

my odometer doesnt work but the speedometer does. i been told that their both conected to the speed sensor. if this were true wouldnt they both be workin right now or should i still replace it and see what happnes? thanx

what year is your car? most all odometers are run off the speedometer in the cluster. if your car is 97 or older, maybe some 98s, then it has a mechanical odometer. gear probably went bad in the cluster.

so the speed sensor is fine and i should just replace the instument cluster? and that will get the speedo and odo both workin?

well it depends. really no its not exactly needed. but then you might want to keep track of your miles in some way. to me, it be best to replace it.
