Filter Size On Gsx

I have a K and N filter right now and it has a 4" inlet which is connected to the metal adapter... I need a new filter because mine is worn pretty bad but will getting a different cone filter with a different adapter and a smaller 3" inlet be worse for the performance due to the smaller size of the inlet?

Re: Filter Size On Gsx

Why would you get a smaller filter? Just get the same size that you have on it.

Re: Filter Size On Gsx

I wouldn't think so, not anything noticeable anyways. A 3" intake is still alot of air intake.

The bigger the better. Stick with what you have.

Re: Filter Size On Gsx

Intake Filter designe and size both effect the performance of an engine. I'll find the equation.....

Re: Filter Size On Gsx

Below is a series of formulas to determine air filter size for a given air flow capacity

1: Square inches of filter required for a motor = CID x Maximum RPM / 20839
2: CFM required for a 4 stroke motor = CID x Maximum RPM / 3456
3: CFM required for a 2 stroke motor = CID x Maximum RPM / 1728
4: CFM required for a turbocharged or supercharged motor = Pounds of Boost / 14.7..
Add 1.0 to this answer. This relates to #2 and #3
Example: (CID x maximum RPM x #4 ) / 3456 or 1728
5: To find circumference of a circle multiply diameter by 3.1416
6: To find diameter of a circle multiply circumference by .31831

Round: Diameter x Height x 6 x 3.14
Flat Panel: Length x Width x 6
Universal Round Taper: (Base + Top) / 2 = A
Take A x Length x 6 x 3.14
Universal Round Straight: Diameter x Length x 6 x 3.14

Hope that helps.

Re: Filter Size On Gsx

What size is the filter that comes with the injen intake?

I measured and its like 4.5" for the inlet but i dont know does anyone have a link to one that would replace it using the metal adapter that came with it?
