ball joint replacement anyone?

Anyone replaced ball joints? I have a 96 w/90k mi and I'm almost certain the ball joints need replacing. There is a clunk up front. I've already changed the sway bar links--they were bad.

I started last night and tried to get the cv axle out of the spindle so that I could press the ball joint out, but I could get the axle out. I was very frustrated! Do I need to loosen the pinch bolt on the strut? I also loosened the lower control arm bolt from the subframe, but that didn't do any good. The Chilton manual is about worthless on this procedure. When is Haynes going to come out with a manual?

Thanks for any and all help!

Hey Kenn,
Sounds like you're 99% there

I've converted some of the 1996 Conti. Service procedures to PDF format for you but I can't upload them here.

If you send me an eMail addy I'll reply with these 12 procedures.
I'm at this email address

Here's the file list:
