02 corolla oil consumption
Hi. Does anyone else have any problem with oil consumption? I have an 02 Corolla CE with 96000km. It has started to use about a quart and a half of oil between oil changes.(8000KM) Toyota tells me this is normal. They consider 1 quart per 1500KM to be acceptable. This just floors me. This is a small 4 cylinder not a V8. At that rate I would never have to change my oil.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chris |

Re: 02 corolla oil consumption
Randy, That sounds like mine. Mine seems to do it mostly when I am highway driving for longer trips 400 to 500KM. When I go back and forth to work which is 25K one way, it doesn't use that much. How many km's do you have?

Re: 02 corolla oil consumption
I don't know if this is applicable, but I have a 97 corolla with about 115,000 miles on it that I determined to have an oil leak at valve cover gasket. When I went to take off the valve cover, I discovered that the 4 bolts that hold the valve cover on were so loose that I was able to take off all 4 by hand.
I think what happened was this: Beneath the 4 valve cover bolts was a rubber grommet with a metal washer. I guess over the years, the rubber deteriorated and contracted in thickness. This allowed the bolts to become loose and subsequently, the valve cover became loose. For 4 bucks, I bought 4 new grommet/washer combos from Toyota, and retightened the bolts. This has stopped the oil leak. Not a bad deal! Good luck. Eddy |
