Vacuum leak
Hello, Ive got a vacuum leak somewhere and Im not sure where to look, Ive checked all the vacuum hoses under the hood and they all seem to be good? Theres not too many of them. When I have the heat on bi-level (head and foot) and am at a stop it works, but when I accelerate it changes to defrost, which Ive read here is the default mode whent he vacuum pressure is low. Any specific areas I should look for this leak at? As always thanks fotr the suggestions

Re: Vacuum leak
Likely you don't have a "leak" but it is operating in an understandable way.
When you accelerate, it is normal for vacuum to drop. Vacuum is normally high at idle because the throttle is closed. The only time vacuum is higher is when coasting with the throttle closed. There is a check valve in the vacuum line to the heater controls but the original may not be enough. A service bullitin here will give you the parts and location you need. http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/24-01-96A.htm I installed it in my JGC just after I bought it and it fixed the problem. JD

Re: Vacuum leak
Thanks JD! Im going to print that out and take it to the dealership to get that piece. I wanted to add that when the control is on Feet only it never works, it is all defrost all the time, would that be a better indicator of a leak or problem outside of this add on part from the dealership?
Thanks |

Re: Vacuum leak
Defrost all the time when in the feet/floor position would indicate a possible aditional problem. Might be the control servo or in the switch maybe a line off under the dash......
Have a look under the hood, using the TSB as a reference, to see if you can find the check valve that it describes. It may have already been installed. Bummer if it is not the simple TSB fix ![]() JD

Re: Vacuum leak
What kind of Jeep do you have? Do you have automatic temperature controls? SJ

Re: Vacuum leak
Not sure what year you have but if it's outside base warranty it's going to cost you.
My 99 GC had same defrost shifting when new. After the check valve was installed it worked fine until lately when it started again. If all the hoses are in good shape and connected then Installing the check valve is probably the cheapest fix you can try. |
