Headers

How hard is it to put headers on a 92 camaro rs with a 305 tbi? And i am getting full length headers. Can i still pass emissions with out the air line hooked up to the headers? I am getting a set of new headers i think by headmann for $136 out jegs.

Re: Headers

headers are a bitch with the engine still in the car, and from what i've heard you can still pass emmissions without the A.I.R. hooked up.

Re: Headers

I put headers on, they're not impossible but they will take you at least a couple days, unless you work nonstop from sun up to sun down. I would recomend it, makes your 305 sound like a 350

Re: Headers

Also before I go to bed, your problem areas are going to be getting the bolts on the passenger side, and making the driver side header fit. I had to take the driverside valve cover off and disconnect the steering shaft or column or whatever you call it, although I probably didn't have to do the last part. If you get those headers and have trouble let me know and I'll try to help you out. Also if keep your AC you might have a little trouble getting around it, but it's not that tough. If you've got determination, you've got all the skills you need.

Re: Headers

They have a flange that connects them to the exaust pipes so you can just unbolt them.

Re: Headers

I love them, it totally changed the the sound of my car. The only draw back is that I cheaped out on the gaskets and now I've got a leak. One thing that shocked me was how much more of the engine I could hear from behind the wheel, it really increases the noise on the inside when you get on it. I got #500-68471, I think the only differance is that mine are shorties and have a y-pipe.

Re: Headers

and what is the diffrence between shorites? beshides they are shorter and cheeper? and the only reason i won't get them is because i have to get them welded on, and i don't want any thing burnt under there.

Re: Headers

I've never delt with longtubes so I'm not entirely sure. Do you mean you would have to have to shorties welded or the full length's welded? The shorties, from hedman at least, are stock replacements meaning you can reuse the stock pipes by just bolting them back up or you can get the ones with the stock collector and just clamp them down.

Re: Headers

ya, i want a bolt on, i don't want to weld, so the shorties will bolt right up? and i thought where the clamp was farther down, that is why i was looking at long ones.
