Headlight Upgrade ??
I was looking for the thread were a guy w/ a 98+ blazer put projector headlights w/ a HID kit but i couldnt find it so sorry for a repeat question
I have a 97 blazer. I was going to do 98+ grill conversion. I wanted to put in GMC headlights v/s the BLazers. I like clean look of the 98+ Jimmy's headlight. But when i do this conversion i'm going to buy a real HID kit. I was looking around for projector headlights and i can only really find them for a 98+ blazer. I can't find any for a 98+ GMC jimmy or for that matter for my 97. Just cleared out ones. so my question is If i plan on getting an HID kit should i try to match it up w/ projector headlights, or will it not make that big of a differnce? thanx adam

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
if ur upgrading to the 98+ jimmy grill and want hid's, try to find a pair off a diamond edition or early gmc envoy. they came with hid's from the factory.

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
Im far from an expert on headlights, but i have heard that some of the "blue" and HID headlights have been melting OE head light assem.. I personally dont believe that the HID would be a problem.

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
I have just the normal 97 headlights an i have like "3pc" ( some cheap ass brand) bulbs as my low beams they look kool a nice blue but there terrible on the road and i have silverstars has my highs.
I was looking for the evnoy or jimmys that come w/ them. There really tough to track down used or new online, and i'm sure the dealer whould take me to town on them. But i wasn't gonna do this till i'm out of school so i still have some time to do my homwork on it

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
HIDs are pimp, i have alot of people say bring them up. This is my, 5400k kit from Phillips, original housing, i do get very few people to flash their lights at me, but what are you going to do? Just make sure your lights aren't aimed to high, you dont have a problem. As far as burning out my housing, i have had for about 2 years, turn on everytime, have driven with them on for many hours, even on a two overnight drives back from arizona, never had a problem. I bought a 9006 conversion kit, with a 5 warr. 98+ jimmys dont come with projectors, only blazers because i guess thats what people customize. If you want sick lights, do what im doing, put 98-00 envoy headlight housing on your truck, their the sickest, but with the jimmy/envoy you have to get their bumper, look carefully... good luck...

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
I was gettting ready to drop the dime on an Phillps Slim HID KIT. Untill i did a little mroe homework. I kept finding out, if i would toss the HID's in my stock housing, its gonna spread light everywhere b/c its not foucsed on the road.
Does any one have an idea, that even if i would put them in the stock housing, are they gonna atleast give me better lighting on the road? i guess that is why most cars w/ HIDs, come with projectors. Well i haven't been able to find any aftermarket headlights for the 97 that have projectors, Only for the newer body style. I was thinkin of possible making somthing that would work were i could get my hands on the projector unit, and make it work by fabrication somthing to hold it in from of the HID bulb inside the housing like SComp23 did, just in mine. If this would be my best bet, where could i find the projector unit? Finally, Is doing an HID conversion even worth it. Or should i just look in to a really really good set of driving lights. I got a cheap yellow colored ones from pepboys, when there on, they show me the road better than my low beams. More or less im looking for the BEST way to get better lighting on my blazer keeping the price close to or under 400 bux

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
The BEST way is going to be a retrofit, and you can do it for less than $400 if you do it yourself. Putting in an HID kit will just give you intense hot-spots on the ground, not a better spread of light. If you can get clear headlights for your truck, retrofit some projectors in there, if not, you can sand smooth a portion of your existing fluted lens.

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
i was thinking about going for these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...58192997QQrdZ1 Just b/c they are clear, i kinda think they are ugly, but if the HID's are going to perform better in them, that i would go w/ them. But if i would get them and not retrofit the projector, i almost think i woudl have worse "hotspots" on the ground, Or would it be the oppitse not sure. Also SComp23, were did u pick ur bmw projectors up at and how much were they? I had some trouble finding some. I was gonna get a really really cheap set of headlights on ebay for a honda civic. they were like 40-50 bux and preety much smash them up just for the projector. and if i dicied to keep my headlights and try to sand. im assuming i would sand the inside of them??? and if i would, just a real fine grit sandpaper. Would i wanna "wetsand" them?

Also, to sand the inside of the lens is a very time consuming process. You need to start out with a thick grit sand paper, then slowly work your way down the chain, buff it, and evenutally polish it. You would be 10 times better off just buying those clear ones, plus they look clean as hell IMO |

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
Thats just what i was looking for. i was on HIDPLANET.com looking around i can get the projector, bulbs and ballast all for around 300-500 bux. I would have to look more indepth for what exaclty i would need to pick up. But lookin at them it looks like all i would have to do is kinda cut out the back of my headlight, mount those inside and just seal them up where the new projector fits out the back seal that up to, And i may be in the clear. I still have some time to think about it and put some money together, But atleast im looking in the right direction now, thanxs man

Re: Headlight Upgrade ??
Well, those are nice lights, but they arent going to be any better at putting your lights on the road. At first i had people flashing me, but than i just lowered them by the adjustable screws and never had a problem again. The brighter the light, the more you have, so that question "if it makes a diff?" is answered when you put 1 light in. I am a xenon fanatic, i knew it would be a headache to try to put a projector in the factory housing, so i ordered a Phillips 9006 Conversion kit ($320). I can pick out cars because of the kelvin of their bulb because each car uses a different package with different housings, so basically no two are the same.
I just bought it envoy, and it comes with heat resistant glass, and a housing for the bulb to reflect a tunnel of light. ![]() Me standing next to my truck, with the Auto headlights on, and fogs on...
