My 99 dodge ram 1500 does a funny thing when the gas light comes on. The transmission quit shifting out of first gear a while back, I took it to two different shops and they did a pan inspection, said it needed rebuilt. $2500 later they said they still couldnt get it to shift. They took it to tyheir electrical shop, and put gas in on the way, it started shifting fine. I pick up the tyruck hour later gas light comes on wont shift??? Anyone know what this could be?? I just keep gas in it, but to this day if it runs low, I am stuck iin first gear..

Re: funny tranny thing
Did you find your problem? My 99 ram cummins is doing the same thing. I have check the wiring ,voltage sensors and they all look good. If I pull the fuse to the PCM and put it back in before starting or short the sending unit ever thing works fine.

Re: funny tranny thing
Does the check engine light come one?It mightt be electrical.Another thing,Did the transmission shop get rid of the nylon checkball inside the bottom transmission line(rubberhose part) towards the radatior? If no get,get rid of it and there is a problem with that checkball:it melts and will plug up the line right up resulting in a burned up transmission.Drill that checkball out or tap it out with a long #2 phillips screwdriver.

Re: funny tranny thing
The check engine light does not come on. I read the fault codes and there no codes. Thanks for telling me about the check ball. I heard that it was a problem. after a year of trouble shooting I am basicly down to thinking it is the computer. If I reset the computer by removing power the truck will shift fine until it is switch off again.
