Skateboarding: new thing

i fell like starting a new sport or hobby and though about skateboarding but i don't know how to get into it now since most of ya'll started when you were little. honestly i'm not even sure if i wanna do this since i know i'm gonna look like crap for like a year.(i've seen a lot of beginners) you got any advice?should i just get a piece of crap walmart board or look for a real board?

i started on a real one. imo, the pos boards at walmart are well... pos. i mean, they go, but thats about it. you could buy one for like, 5 bux, learn to atleast balance yourself and just go, then buy a board, and depending on where you'd like to skate, probably buy a video and watch some pro's and their techniques. you can even google and find out how to do some tricks.
if you're gonna just skate on the streets, you're better off just learning a few basic tricks, and practicing from there on.

btw, i started when i was in 6th grade, stopped when i was in like... 10th? so yeah, i didn't skate that long. I picked up a board again in college, and ended up rolling my ankle, again, lol.

edit: i started on a toy machine, just some useless or useful info, w/e u make of it. it was a decent board. i was young, i liked the fireball and water drop fighting, which is why i bought it.

One word of advice. Stretch before doing it. And remember to always keep your knees bent.

i paid 100 for my toy machine, (imo, more than i should have) but ne way, 70 is a decent price. if you think you'll be committed, go for it! also, don't get frustrated easily, you'll need plenty and plenty of practice just to ollie, lol

If your looking for a board, I recomend going to a skateshop. Usually they will have completes for around 100 which is pretty cheap. Also I recomend a PopWar for your first board, they seem to be light and strong if your not doing anything too serious.

Mmm...I used to be all into the skateboarders. A lot of guys stop skateboarding here by the time they're in 10th grade. Or they just dropped out and I haven't seen them in years...

What about Ron Chapman or Chris Pastras aka Dune (started Stereo Skateboards with the ex-pro-Blind-skateboarder-turned-actor Jason Lee)? But you're probably too young to know who they are.

Oh yeah, and 3/4 of the Zoo York team is black. I saw the one dude pull a smooth hard flip over a pyramid at the park near me during a demo.

blew most of my money on the LP but my dad just sent some money so i hope i find some cheap skateboards........i wanna take one on my summer trip, create some havoc
