Factoy CD player
Ok guys this is my first and i have just traded my 1998 Gmc Sonoma for a 2002 ford focus zx3. The problem is that it already has a cd player and i wanna be lazy and leave it in, but i also want to hook an amplifier up to it...is that possible? Thank you for your time :P

If it's the factory CD player, then no, there are no pre-amp outputs. A specialty shop may be able to help you, but you might as well just shell out some more money for a good headunit; many benefits.

You should be able to hook an amp up to any radio...you will, however, have to use the high inputs(I think they're called) as apposed to the RCAs. Calling crutchfield, talking to the guys at Best Buy, or your local installer, etc should get you a clearer answer.

Trust me, you will greatly benefit from an aftermarket deck as far as sound and quality are concerned. I've never heard of rigging up an amp to a factory unit, but if it is possible, I'm betting it'd be expensive to do.

I agree on the aftermarket deck. RCAs will produce cleaner sound. But, hooking the amp up to the factory deck isn't 'rigging it', and I don't know whether the cost is higher or not. There are in fact things called high inputs on the amp where you connect the factory speaker lead to the amp - where it's amplified - and then you run a wire to the speaker. It is possible. Research. M.

Most amps have high level outputs and they are there specifically to hook up non-RCA decks. The problem is that when you use them , all the noise riding on the outputs is also amplified. That's why the RCA inputs work better. Scratch up $200 and buy yourself a decent head unit with RCA outputs. I put a Kenwood deck in mine, along with replacing the door speakers with Kenwoods and the difference in sound is huge! This is the kit I used to put it in. Works very well and looks professional. Install was 2 hrs start to finish. I should note that I rigged up a harness to accomodate the factory wiring, this was a big timesaver as well.
