1997 Taurus - On and Off Again Heat
This morning while driving to work, my 97 Taurus had no heat. After about 8 miles down the road I notice the head guage creeping up and so pulled over to let the car cool down. I waiting about 30 minutes, started to return home to get the van, tried the heat again and out came warm to hot air. Thinking the thermostat had been stuck, I started back to work, only to feel cool air again after driving a few miles. The temperature guage started to rise again so turned around to head back home again. The air blew cool the 6 miles home, and the temp guage stayed a little above normal. NOW, I've just had the heater core replaced, 2 weeks after that, car overheated enough to blow a head gasket, which happened in November. The car has been running fine he past few months.
Any ideas what is going on??? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 1997 Taurus - On and Off Again Heat
There have been quite a few similar posts on this forum, do a search for "no heat" or other similar keywords.
Essentially, it seems the common suggestions are air bubble in the cooling system (possibly due to the fairly recent work to the cooling system), a bad thermostat, or bad water pump/pump impeller. -Rod |
