Question Help Required....

My home PC is down with a "missing operating system" message.

Here's the info...

I run NT 4.0 . When I had this problem, I also had a "bad memory" error which I fixed by removing the bad simm (EDO) and its corresponding "pair". Unfortunately, I still have the missing operating system error. I do have an emergency repair disk(not up to date) but it requires a 3-1/2 floppy (A which I have long since abandoned(I needed the interrupt for my CD burner). I have XP and would like to upgrade but I can't figure out how to install this or reboot with NT so I can recover all my hard drive info easily.

Any suggestions??

Jus put back in u're floppy drive

First.. U're PC CRASHED>> all data may be lost.

take out u're Burner, then put back in the floopy drive and boot with an NT boot disk or a 98 boot disk.. then jus choose the option boot with CD-ROM support and reload u're OS...NOTE: make sure u have u're CD-ROM DRIVE STILL IN<< not u're burner.

If you want to put on XP, just put it in the CD, go into the BIOS, make it boot from the CD first, then sit back, and watch as winxp comes up. You can install it over winNT, or choose a different folder. Then, you can boot up, save all your data that you need, then format and put XP back on (I say format because it sound's like there could be some major software problems/decay).

IF you don't have boot from a CD, then get a floppy, and put in WinXP. At the command prompt, enter i/386 to start the setup of winxp (setup won't run in dos)

Is your computer setup to boot from a cd?

I set it up to boot from the CDROM first, put the CD in and it wouldn't boot. It went there to read it but still came up with the error.
