Windshield Wipers

Hello,

That same day that my doors were frozen shut my windshield wipers froze to my windshield. The driver's side I unfroze from the windshield, but I never got around to doing the other side, and without thinking about it I used the wipers. Now the passenger's side doesn't work. Does anybody know how much that might cost to fix? I guess I was kinda stupid cuz in my VW I could do that and it wouldn't harm them. I guess the GA is a little bit more sensative hm? Thank you!

Re: Windshield Wipers

if you get the stuck one unfroze, it might acually work after it cycles the wipers a couple times. Maybe!

Re: Windshield Wipers

LoL, nice solution, and it might actually work if things were frozen around here still. I live in Colorado the weather is 25 degrees one day and 70 degrees the next. ha ha... I'm pretty sure it's something else. THank you though!

Re: Windshield Wipers

Sorry I didnt get back to ya sooner, whats the year of your GA?
So hav you tried moving the wiper arm thats not working up and down with your hand?

Well if its broke you need to take it to a shop and get it fixed. The arms inside that control the wipers will probley be a dealer part or it'll hav to come from another car from a salvage yard.
I looked for the part at GM Direct these parts arent listed.
But expect to pay $50-150 if its a simple fix, if you need all mechanicals replaced it could be twice as much at the dealershit.

Re: Windshield Wipers

I took a look at my wipers in great detail this morning since it decided to snow like crazy last night. There's a bolt that holds the wiper on there, and also moves in sync with the other wiper. It is actually moving and turning, and the wiper itself with a little help moves a little bit about 1/8 the way up the windshield. I'm wondering if there's some kind of fastener that holds it to that bolt that makes the wiper move with it? It seems that the motor for the wipers is working fine. Any ideas? Could maybe the strain that was put on the wiper stripped the bolt?

Re: Windshield Wipers

ya theirs a cover over the nut that holds the wiper on, the cap just pops off and I think the nuts 1/2" or 15mm(cant remember).
Several push pins hold down the large plastic cover under the wipers(where the motor and linkage are). You'll need in thier to see whats broken or poped off.

Try lifting the wipre all the way up, where it normally goes, and see if it doesnt catch, mine hav done this same thing is heavy snow, and usually it'll catch and start working
Other wise you might need some parts.....

Re: Windshield Wipers

sounds to me like you stripped out the wiper arm, pull the cap up and try to tighted the nut holding the arm onto the linkage assembly, I highly doubt you hurt any of the linkage or stripped the shaft or nut, the arm would be the first thing to go.

Re: Windshield Wipers

YAY a solution. It was a VERY simple fix. The bolt was just loose. It took about five or six turns with the wratchet, and voila it works again! yay. Thanks for the help!
