E-brake sticks

I've read the past posts on the "brake" light coming on even when the e-brake isn't on. I've checked the brake pads, the brake fluid and flushed the brake lines. (it's the light in the center, not the dummy light about the brake lights).

Sometimes the ebrake on my 96 camry sticks, the brake light will come on and stay on. The difference between mine and the previous posts is that I can feel the brakes dragging, it's not just the brake light on. Sometimes if I try to accelerate quickly (hit 4000 rpm) I will hear a *pop* and the brakes will release. Other times I have to turn off the car and restart it a few times before the brakes will release.

Is there some switch somewhere that I need to check?

Re: E-brake sticks

Sounds like you have a some type of mechanical failure in your brake system. Do you have ABS, rear drums, what are the specifics on your car?

Re: E-brake sticks

I do have ABS. all of the brakes are disk. Fluid levels are high and all brake pads were replaced a few months ago.

Re: E-brake sticks

There's a good chance they didn't replace the e-brake linings or lube the mechanism. Your e-brake shoes are internal to the hub and are not the same pads as used to stop the rear wheels. You probably need to lube the linkage and the internal pivots for the brake shoes.
