Re: insurance on a new bike

it varies state to state and whether you're financing the bike or not. if you buy the bike outright you only need liability, if you're financing it there may be other restrictions. like here in NY i need to have pretty much full coverage since i'm financing my bike, and i'm paying $1300 a year for it.
also how old are you? $8000 is astronomically high, you could buy a new 600 sport bike every year with that money.

Re: insurance on a new bike

In AR, you have to have insurance on any vehicle before it even leaves the lot, and full coverage if it's financed. I payed next to nothing to fully insure my old '03 Suzuki 600 gsxr, but I'm almost 26 and divorced..

Re: insurance on a new bike

You need to shop around for an agent who will work for you (preferrably one who rides!). I was with Progressive Direct then I found a local agent who gave me a better rate and better coverage for both of my bikes (still with Progressive, go figure). I do a lot of long distance touring/ rallies so I need the added/ additional coverage.
