Alpine IVA-D310

Hey I just recently got my first car, a 2000 Mercury Sable LS, and want to upgrade my casette player to an in-dash video player/GPS device. The Alpine IVA-D310 seemed to be just what I was looking for. The only problem was that when I went to Bestbuy.com to check if it would fit my car, it said that it wouldn't fit. I later went to another site where it said it would fit. Could anybody here please verify whether or not this would fit in my car? Also, how does the GPS work on that? It says it has a "dedicated Navigation input"...does that mean i need to buy another GPS device, or is it just a CD I can use or something? Finally, I am aware you cannot watch DVD's while driving, but can the passengers in the back seat watch DVD's on the screens in the headrest or no? Last question is, can I use the GPS and listen to my iPod at the same time if I link the Ipod to the Alpine IVA-D301? Please respond, and thanks in advance for taking the time to read all this. I just want to make sure of what i'm doing before spending this much money ($1400.00). Thanks in advance!

Re: Alpine IVA-D310

For the sable, you will need to buy like $80-120 in parts to put anything aftermarket in stereo wise. Your dash kit will basically replace the entire oval/rounded area up front. Also, it comes with a 20+ foot long wiring harness because your factory amp and tuner are actually located in the rear in the trunk.

The d310 does NOT come with navigation. You need to buy a separate unit, GPS Brain, to have navigation with it.

If it has a dedicated GPS input, this means the aI-Net should still be available for your ipod.

Good luck.

Re: Alpine IVA-D310

you can daisy chain several devices on the AI-net ..... so that doesn't really matter
