2003 Ford Focus Wagon Ignition Problem
I have a 2003 Focus Wagon. The ignition will not turn to the on or start position. What is the most likely problem, and what do I need to do to fix the problem? I don't have access to a dealer or a repair shop, and need to do the repairs myself.

the key not turning? thats odd, how is the key looking? if it's bad it may just be the key, i've herd (don't quote me on this) that there is a number somewhere in the owners manual or on the car, sort of a key number, and you can take it into the dealer and they can cut you a new key, hope that helps, othwise, i'm not sure

Re: 2003 Ford Focus Wagon Ignition Problem
Unfortunately it may be more complicated than that. The '03 Focus has the passive security device, which means the key has a chip in it that must be programmed. I've heard that the chip can sometimes be messed up by other electronic devices and no longer work. Unless you have 2 working keys, you cannot make your own. Costs like $60 I think for the dealer to "reprogram" a key. Once you have 2, you can do it yourself for like $20 (cost of the key).
But then, it could just be something up with the ignition. |

Not to be harsh or anything on the reply before me but I think they all have chips in the keys from 2000 and up. Oh and did you Try to turn the steering wheel while you turn the key?
