Oil for mid-high mileage 99 Tahoe

I am buying a 99 Tahoe with 145K on it. Manual recommends 5w-30 for my climate, however I was wondering if any of the newer (synthetic?) oils would be better for the engine with "mid-life" miles on it. Thanks.

Re: Oil for mid-high mileage 99 Tahoe

the thing you have to watch out for is that sinthetic is a very thin oil so if you have any kind of oil leak right now, it will be much larger and start dripping possibly
