Re: radio locked new beetle
Look in the glovebox and you should have a owners manual with a booklet on the audio system - inside will be the code. If not then try to contact the previous owner if possible. In Australia we can contact Eurovox and they can provide the code for around $11 otherwise contact the nearest VW agents.

Re: radio locked new beetle
The same thing happened to me. I went to the dealer and they unlocked it for me with no exta $. otherwise you will need to start at 0001-9999 to unlock.

Re: radio locked new beetle
The dealer needs to pull out the radio with a special tool they have, then they can write the number off the back of the radio for you. The dealer here did mine for free, so now I have it in case I need to change the battery again.

Re: radio locked new beetle
the code should be in your owners manual booklet on a "radio card" that should be stuck somewhere in there. if its not, you have to take it to the dealership, they pull the radio out, and get a serial number off the radio, then they have to type that number off the radio into their computers to come up with the code, so its usually highly likely that they'll charge at the very least a half hour labor for that. if you do find the code in your booklet, you set it using the 1,2,3,and 4 radio preset buttons, and once you have the number typed in, hold the tuner ">" button in and itll beep then the radio will start working.
