apexi auto timer

Hey has anyone bought the apexi auto timer for their na yet? And if so what wiring harness will i need to use in on a 97 na? and aside from the wiring harness will any other "Tapping" be neccessary to utilize the a/f ration funtion ( like into the o2 sensor) or does everything go throught the harness?

Re: apexi auto timer

Can you post a link to the part you are talking about? I'm hoping you aren't talking about a turbo timer for your NA.

Its an auto(na) timer and turbo timer. It can be used for either.
Im in high school, always coming and going in a rush, and i dont want to have to wait for my car to cool down 7 times a day. and the air/fuel function doesnt hurt.

Re: apexi auto timer

ok,
1) that is a turbo timer, not for NAs. The 'auto' part is part of the name, it doesn't mean for auto trannies. And unless you have a TT conversion, there is zero need for this.

2) The a/f ratio function is junk, it says "theoretical". It is judging based on O2 sensor voltage, it's not a wideband, so I wouldn't even trust it.

Save your money for a part you actually could get use out of.

I never said anything about an automatic trans. the word auto refers to Naturally Aspirated, and i think its a good investment of money to insure my engine has proper warmup and cool down time as that is common knowledge.
Any ways all i want to know is if anyone knows how to install it?

Re: apexi auto timer

Seriously, not trying to be a prick here, but that is a waste of money. The auto part doesn't refer to NAs. It's a turbo timer. End of story. It's sole purpose is to let the car run while the keys are out of the ignition, so that the oil can cool down while still circulating. That way it doesn't just sit inside the turbos and bake. Don't believe me...I'll bet you've only found harnesses for the TTs and not the NAs...that is because they aren't made for the NAs.

Re: apexi auto timer

^that's what I was gonna say too. Even if you did have a turbo, I still wouldn't waste my money on it, becuase all you really have to do is let the car idle for 30 seconds after you park. You can do that to your n/a too if it makes you feel better, but all you're really gonna do is waste more gas.

Re: apexi auto timer

alrite i get u, its just my 2nd/3rd? uncle runs a hot rod shop and i just learn from him. we are both picky about proper care ( i cant help it) and i just wanted to be able to let it cool down without wasting my time. I usually wait for the oil p. gauge to drop bfore i turn it off and it can take 45 or so seconds, and thats why i wanted it. but if you guys say its okay to just turn it off after a hard run then i guess i gotta listen to u, u are a "moderator" lol.

Re: apexi auto timer

You are not hearing me. I didn't say turn it right off after a hard run. All I've been saying is it is a TURBO timer not an NA timer. It is a part made for a TURBO car. I understand your intentions, and they are great. But you are missing the whole point. It's like saying, I want a BOV for my NA.

Re: apexi auto timer

its common sense that will tell you not to turn your car off right after a hard run. you might cruise around easily afterwards before shutting her down. and you could also just let it idle for about a minute or two. turbo timers, as Igovert said, are ONLY for cars with Turbos. therefore, this would serve you no purpose. furthermore, i believe turbo timers just to be a waste of money, as most people think. put that couple hundred bucks toward a more meaninful modification for your car.

Re: apexi auto timer

aite wake, i hear ya and i get what your saying.

If you REALLY dont have time to let your car cool after beating the nuts off of it, yes, i turbo timer should work. But i wouldnt go with anything expensive. get the cheapest one you can find.

as for the install, you just tap into your ignition wire from the ECU, and probably your e-brake wire (all this depends on model of turbo timer). but like i said, get a cheap basic one, you dont need to waste 200 bucks on a fancy one. most of the other functions on those are garbage like Igo said. also, the more functions, the more wires you gotta tap into...
